Our Story

Hey! I’m Sharnae, founder of Nature’s Little Secret.

Before starting Nature’s Little Secret, I worked as a hair stylist for 8 years. I loved doing hair, but after having my first child, I stepped away from behind the chair. At the time, I thought that part of my life was over… but God had other plans.

In 2014, I decided to stop relaxing my hair. My hair was thinning like crazy, and one day I looked in the mirror like, “Oop—wait, I can see my scalp? Oh absolutely not.” 😂

I have naturally thick, dense hair, so that did not sit right with me at all.

When I went natural, I thought the hardest part was behind me—but I quickly realized finding the right products was a whole journey of its own. The prices were CRAZY, a lot of products still didn’t give me the results I was looking for, and after stepping away from relaxers, I wanted formulas made with safer ingredients.

I wanted products that worked, felt good in my hair, and didn’t feel impossible to afford.

Let me be real—I didn’t set out to start a business. I didn’t know a thing about entrepreneurship. What I did have was determination, a deep love for hair care, and a borderline obsession with the beauty supply store. My family swore it was my second home. 😂

So I took matters into my own hands—literally. I started researching ingredients, learning about formulations, mixing products in my kitchen, and testing them on myself, family, and friends until I created something my hair actually loved.

In 2018, with a huge push and loving support from my husband, Nature’s Little Secret was born.

That same year, I packed up my products and debuted NLS for the very first time at the Baltimore Natural Hair Expo. The pictures below are from that very first event, and when I tell you I was TERRIFIED!! I had no idea what I was doing or what to expect.

I was smiling in the photo, but my heart was pounding—and don’t mind the hair, I was still growing out my heat damage, okay? 😂

But I showed up anyway. Scared and all.

And that day changed my life.

       

What started as a solution for my own hair grew into something so much bigger. I created Nature’s Little Secret with textured hair like mine in mind, but over time, women with all hair types started falling in love with our products too.

To me, that proves that thoughtful formulas, quality ingredients, and real results can make a difference for everybody.
